Getting Ready for Middle School
Leaving the elementary school and entering middle school involves adjustments and changes for you and your child. You can expect changes in all aspects of your child's life: physical, social, emotional, and academics.
In elementary school, your child probably knew most of the kids in their class, most children had only one teacher and homework did not require too much time.
Middle School is quite different from the elementary school experience in so many ways. Students come to Middle School from various elementary schools and it is possible that your child won't recognize many of the faces in their homeroom. Subjects will be taught in different classrooms by different teachers, and navigation of a large building and crowded halls will be an early challenge. The amount of homework may increase, and will require more organizational skills. While the transition from elementary to middle school can feel overwhelming, it is an exciting time of growth and discovery.
Your child probably has many questions and some concerns. Talking about what to expect is an essential step in easing the transition. Getting Ready for Middle School will do just that. Some of the helpful hints we will touch on include:
• Taking a walk through with your child's schedule
• Locking and Unlocking Lockers
• Become familiar with the school and where classes are located
• Planning ahead so that a locker visit may no be necessary between each class
• Know how to find the front office, lunchroom, bathrooms and bus circle.
• learn daily schedule
• get to classrooms on time
• bring school supplies and books to class
• organize study time to complete projects and assignments
• learn how to use a day planner
