History of the Community Parent Center
The Community Parent Center is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, comprised of a local group of professionals and parents who share their talents and skills to provide valuable insight into the needs of families in the community. It was established in 1988 by a dedicated group of school administrators and parents representing the Bellmore, North Bellmore, Merrick and North Merrick Elementary School Districts and the Bellmore/Merrick Central High School District.
The Center is committed to supporting families by working cooperatively with local parent groups and community organizations, providing information on parenting and family wellness through workshops and programs, encouraging and supporting parent networking and maintaining a collection of resource materials for parents.
The population served by the Parent Center includes all the parents and students in the four component Elementary School Districts in Bellmore, North Bellmore, Merrick and North Merrick, and the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District in grades Pre-Kindergarten to Twelve (approximately 15,000 families), and the parents and students who attend parochial and private schools in the community. In addition, the Parent Center provides programs to local school districts across Nassau County.
